Sustainment of Expeditionary Medical Skills (SEMS)
The ultimate objective is to maximize medical Warfighter performance in the operational space, ensuring the provision of exceptional emergent care for any wounded. Expanding tool capabilities is essential and includes the development of live, virtual and augmented reality (AR) technologies (to include future developments) that can simulate injury and immerse providers in realistic scenarios that facilitate best learning. While knowing what virtual tools do to enhance learning, it is also important to address any negative effects that may result from the implementation of the technologies. As we peer into the future, we recognize the value of immersive synthetic simulation training that allows individuals and small teams to learn and perform high-risk medical procedures in zero-risk environments, and help providers retain those extremely valuable, yet perishable life-saving skills once gained.
